Nutrition is essential for good health. Children need well balanced meals to meet their daily energy and nutritional needs. Therefore, the Child and Adult Care Food Program established meal patterns based on these dietary needs.
Funding for this program comes from your tax dollars through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and Department of Public Instruction in Bismarck. Dakota Prairie CAA, your local sponsoring organization, prepares your meal claims and issues monthly checks to you, the provider. Meal rates generally increase annually to compensate for higher food costs.
Dakota Prairie CAA has been a sponsoring organization for the Child and Adult Care Food Program since 1978. In maintaining a regional status as a sponsor, Dakota Prairie CAA can better serve the needs of their providers by being more accessible.
You, as a REGISTERED or LICENSED day care home can enroll in the Child and Adult Care Food Program at no cost.
Once enrolled in the CACFP you can be reimbursed for meals served to children in your care. By meeting proper meal pattern requirements, three (3) meals can be claimed per child per day. One of these meals has to be a snack, however. If you are income eligible, your own children can be claimed also, when others are present.
Dakota Prairie CAA sponsors workshops annually to help you meet licensing requirements. Nutrition updates are sent monthly.
