Family Development Specialist Training

Join us in Bismarck, ND for an 8-day Family Development Specialist Training. This training is the ideal next step in our series of case management trainings; an opportunity for meaningful professional development that will ultimately have a positive impact on the people being served by the Community Action Network. This course teaches the use of the Family Development Model of Family Centered Practice to facilitate improved family functioning and economic independence. It includes relationship building, systems theory, family centered case management, conflict management, and empowerment strategies. The National Resource Center has developed this 8-day training and certification program with the Iowa Association of Community Action Directors.

This course will teach basic skills needed to assist low-income families and families experiencing stress who want to improve family functioning and achieve economic independence. Additionally, this course will help training participants explore personal ethical and philosophical issues concerning family centered work including, but not limited to, poverty, culture, and gender.

WHEN:  April 22-25 and May 20-23, 2024
WHAT: This training will cover a comprehensive range of topics, including:

  • Utilization of the Family Development Model to enhance family functioning and promote economic independence.
  • Family engagement strategies.
  • Assessment techniques.
  • Goal setting and action planning.
  • Cultural competence in service delivery.
  • Community development approaches.
  • Case closure procedures.
  • Worker safety and self-care practices.

REGISTRATION:  Limited to 25 participants.   
COST: FREE. Lunch is on your own.

Attendance for all 8 days of training is required.  Any absences on any of the days or no-shows will result in the CAA reimbursing CAPND $1,100 per person. Please communicate with CAPND immediately if there are any changes in your schedule.

About the Presenter

Patricia A. Parker, CSW, MCCMH

Patricia Parker, (C.S.W., MCCMH), received her degree in social work from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has a degree in Community Mental Health from Trinity College of Vermont. Ms. Parker also attended Milwaukee School of Theology and Milwaukee Lutheran College in Milwaukee WI. Ms. Parker has been conducting workshops and seminars since 1986.Patricia Parker is currently a full-time Curriculum and Instruction Manager for the Helen Bader School of Social Welfare at the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee in the Wisconsin Child Welfare Professional Development System program. Patricia has worked as a consultant/trainer with the National Resource Center for Family Centered Practice-University of Iowa since 1989.
